IBIB (Isobutyl Isobutyrate) is an economical moisture barrier solvent widely used in lacquers, plastic-based coatings, and high-solids coatings. It is a low volatility solvent with good leveling and anti-blushing properties. It is an excellent urethane grade solvent for nitrocellulose.
IBIB’s low surface tension properties make it a positive role in applications that require improvement of wet substrates. In addition, IBIB’s low water solubility makes it an excellent moisture barrier solvent in moisture-sensitive coatings such as 2K polyurethanes.
IBIB’s high resistivity also helps adjust the resistivity of coatings used in electrostatic spray equipment.
