AAEM(Acetoacetoxyethyl Methacrylate) Introduction

Date  2021-08-11 09:40:16 Shenzhen Prechem New Materials Co., Ltd Views

AAEM(Acetoacetoxyethyl Methacrylate) is one of the most important products in Shenzhen Prechem’s portfolio of acrylates, designed to improve the performance of acrylic polymers in coatings and adhesives. Especially for the requirements to improve adhesion, reduce glass transition temperature (can improve the elasticity and toughness of the coating), reduce the viscosity of the system (especially for high solid content system) and improve the cross-linking density has a very good effect. It also improves the adhesion of coatings to metal, ore and wood surfaces.

In architectural coatings, for the selection of a suitable exterior wall coating, the protective effect and decorative effect are equally important, because exterior wall paint is exposed to the external environment and changing temperature all the year round. It is also important to avoid weathering of the coating. For exterior building appearance, the performance of the coating, such as color retention, fade resistance, corrosion resistance, chemical media and adhesion to the substrate are the most influential factors. AAEM(Acetoacetoxyethyl Methacrylate) is commonly used in high quality coatings to improve adhesion, increase hardness and durability, and provide better resistance to weathering, moisture and lower dust adhesion.

In metallic coatings, acrylic resins can be chelated with different metal surfaces by copolymerization with AAEM(Acetoacetoxyethyl Methacrylate). This improves the adhesion and elasticity of the coating, as well as the corrosion resistance of the coating.

The enhanced adhesive properties of AAEM(Acetoacetoxyethyl Methacrylate) make it ideal for use as adhesives and sealants in acrylic systems. Especially in the field of construction applications, and some in high humidity conditions still require high adhesion.

Compared to the solvent system, the water-based system provides us with a more environmentally friendly and healthy alternative. However, water is more difficult to fully evaporate from the system than other organic solvents. Therefore, water-based systems reduce the drying time of the coating by increasing the solid content as much as possible. Unfortunately, most high solids systems also have very high viscosity, which makes it very difficult to operate. The addition of AAEM(Acetoacetoxyethyl Methacrylate) reduces the viscosity of the acrylic polymer system, allowing the builder to easily use a water-based system with zero solvent volatilization.

The addition of AAEM(Acetoacetoxyethyl Methacrylate) helped improve the durability and toughness of water-based polymers, which, when cured at room temperature, tend to have intrinsic performance deficiencies compared to solvent systems, such as durability and toughness, and significantly improved scratch resistance and dust adhesion.
