MIAK Solvent
Methyl Isoamyl Ketone
MIAK (Methyl Isoamyl Ketone) has high solvent activity, slow evaporation rate, low density, low surface tension, and a high boiling point. These properties make MIAK a very good solvent for high-solids coatings. Because regulations limit the weight of solvent per gallon of coating, formulators favor the use of low-density solvents that help reduce the VOC content of a coating.
DIBK Solvent
Diisobutyl Ketone
DIBK (Diisobutyl Ketone) is a slow evaporating, low density solvent that has good activity for many synthetic resins including nitrocellulose, rosin esters, phenolics, hydrocarbons, alkyds, polyesters, and acrylics. It is useful as a retarder solvent to improve and minimize humidity blushing. The low density and low surface tension of DIBK enables formulators to develop high-solids coatings with low VOC content and excellent flow and leveling properties.
MBA Solvent
3-Methoxybutyl Acetate
MBA (3-Methoxybutyl Acetate), an ester derivative, is applicable in organic synthesis. It serves as a solvent for nitrocellulose, ethyl cellulose, etc., and can be mixed with thinners and spray solvents. As a high-boiling solvent in polyurethane resin systems (including automotive refinish paints) and UV-curable/non-toxic toy paints, as well as screen inks, it enhances leveling and gloss.
IBIB Solvent
Isobutyl Isobutyrate
IBIB (Isobutyl Isobutyrate) is an economical moisture barrier solvent widely used in lacquers, plastic-based coatings, and high-solids coatings. It is a low volatility solvent with good leveling and anti-blushing properties. It is an excellent urethane grade solvent for nitrocellulose.
